This past year I was fortunate to take a class through Harvard Extension School called The Art and Design of Information. A communications course, I furthered my knowledge on how to put together effective data visualizations and infographics in a variety of formats. We also dipped our toes into learning D3, a Javascript library that is incredibly useful for building interactive data visualizations. That is a skill that I want to explore more, as it can create exciting ways to showcase data coming out of my labs’ research.
The final project for the class was done in groups of 3-4 people, with each of us in charge of a visualization that helped cover the topic we chose to explore. Our group explored Central American migration and apprehension trends at the Southern US Border.
